Start-up companies

Since our founding in December 2004, BTO has been involved in the establishment of 26 companies. 2009 was our best year ever, resulting in 9 start-up companies and 9 licence agreement. Here you find a few of our start-up companies:


iSentio AS

iSentio was established December 2005 by a doctor at the department of Microbiology and Immunology at Haukeland University Hospital, and two IT-specialists, together with BTO. The founders have developed an online application, the iSentio RIPSEQ, that dramatically improves the bacteria identification process. It produces accurate results up to 90% faster than existing methods, hence reduces hospital time and can save lifes.

BerGenBio AS

BerGenBio was established on December 21st 2007 by two researchers at the Department of Biomedicine, University of Bergen, in cooperation with BTO and Unifob AS. The purpose of the company is research and development within the field of biotechnology, with focus on new pharmaceutical therapautica.

TextUrgy AS

TextUrgy was established December 2007, by a researcher from UNI Digital together with BTO. The company product – the program TextUrgy – is a new program and method for fast retrival of exact information for search in large documents. The program is a semantic indexing engine which delivers a thematic presentation of the content.

LTL Nor AS

At the University of Bergen, a research group has developed a method of one step conversion of solid lignin to liquid products. Based on this “Lignin to liquid” process, LTL Nor AS was established spring 2009. This one-step process provides qualitative turnover of lignin to biofuel. The LTL Nor technology is the leading method in the conversion of lignin to liquid in a one-step process.

METAS

METAS was established summer 2009 by researchers at the Institute of Marine Research, together with BTO. The company develops and manufactures underwater devices which use acoustic sensors for monitoring the subsea environment concerning presence and location of biomass (e.g. zooplankton or fish), sediments, or pollutants (e.g. oil spill).

12touch AS

12touch AS was established spring 2009 by Torbjørn Aasen, engineer from from Haukeland University Hospital, together with BTO. The product Aasen has developed – 2touch – is a wireless, non-battery keyboard, with slim (2,5 mm) and flexible design. When rolled up, it is suitable for a pocket.  2touch is the first and only of its kind to be developed and presented on the market
