The patent process

Patenting can be an expensive and lengthy process. The formulation of the application and the timing of the application process could also influence the costs.

Once a patent application has been filed, it may take years before a patent is granted. During this period you are free to publish the content of the patent application. If you develop new or additional knowledge concerning your invention during the application period, you should consider adding this to your patent application. Within 12 months from the patent application filing date you may add new information without filing a new application. Remember that in this context new information must be a more detailed description of the content in the already filed patent application. Completely new knowledge must be patented from the beginning. The rules correspond to the principles mentioned above, i.e. you may not speak freely about new knowledge before it is protected through a filed patent application.

New experimental data and complementary research results can also be added/ included in the patent application within12 months from the first patent application filing date.
