Pattern Solutions (PS AS)
Invention
PS has developed a package in Java, javANN, for extracting hidden information in large volumes of data. The system can be used by the customers in a commercial setting. By use of this software one is able to systematically find, for instance, “fingerprint” behind different human diseases or diseases at a fish farm. The system has until now been used to carry out datamining applications in biomedicine and fish farming, but can equally well be used in many other fields, like for instance the oil industry.
PS has developed a package that contains a library of different non-linear, adaptive algorithms to build pattern recognition applications. By use of javANN one is able to do many different types of analysis of the customers’ data. The javaANN is extending now by including new algorithms into the package like different adaptive cluster techniques to let the customers view connections in the data that may be behind a disease process. By building multi-agent datamining applications one is also able to build distributed datamining and pattern recognition applications that may for instance be used in a monitoring process. By introducing agents into the system one is also able to build a highly dynamic biomedical system like for instance a network of interacting proteins.

Applications
The algorithm in the library are generic which means that they can be used in many different fields such as biomedicine, fish farming, oil industry, undersea technology, environmental research, robotics, text- and webmining applications.
Technology
At the moment the package contains several different neural network algorithms, fuzzy based algorithms and clustering algorithms to be used to analyze the customer’s data. The process has also just begun to include evolutionary algorithms in javANN and making the datamining process distributed by including agents into the system. The technology has been used in many different areas. For instance, PS’s technology has been used to do a “proof of concept” study based on 120 samples of children suffering from autism with nearly 90 % correct prediction.
