Marit Warncke, CEO of Bergen Chamber of Commerce, encourages industry to step up and and contribute in the funding of start-up companies! Warncke emphasizes the importance of local industry & commerce to contribute in the recapitalization of this fund in order to achieve the development of new growth companies in our region.

Universitetet i Bergen har laget film om mangfoldet i innovasjon – med professor emeritus Erling Hammer i hovedrollen. Fredag 27. januar kunne en fullsatt “kino”sal oppleve en omfattende karriere gjennom 50 år til en kunnskapsrik multigrunder og innovasjonpionér som er “still going strong”.

The newspaper Bergens Tidende (BT) published a major article yesterday about a recent study by NHH which has investigated the financial crisis and what we have learned from it. The study concludes that the high-tech start-up companies are among the first to perish in the midst of a global financial crisis. The small biotech company BerGenBio AS, a BTO startup company, is an example of the oposite. Before Christmas 2011, the company accomplished to raise substantial funding from investors, 52 mill NOK in equity capital.Read complete article here

The worlds fastest and most precise bacteria test – RipSeq by iSentio – now launched in the US

The life science software company iSentio AS opened office in Silicon Valley, US, last year as part of the company’s strategy to grow globally. Their goal is to make their unique bacteria test, RipSeq, the leading DNA analysis tool for pathogen identification. Today more than 30 european hospitals are using the RipSeq-technology on a daily basis, and experience shows that this fast and precise technology makes a difference in the treatment of patients. Main focus this year is to raise further funding, the goal is 30-40 mill NOK in 2012 in order to accelerate the development of the company as well as grow sales and marketing. BerGenBio AS raised NOK 52 MILL funding from investor group

The biotech company BerGenBio AS has now raised NOK 52 MILL funding from an investor group to finance a large clinical study with purpose to develop new cancer medicine. The BTO fund Norsk Innovasjonskapital II is one of the partners in this investor group, as well as the Bergen billionaire Trond Mohn. BTO has also contributed in the development and implementation of strategy, some legal aspects and accounting. BerGenBio is a spin-out company from BTO, and has experienced rapid growth the last year now counting 14 employees. Read Dagens Næringsliv article here

RFID/NFC miniklynge etablert gjennom BTO, NTNU og CK samhandlingsprosjekt

BTO har gjennom et samhandlingsprosjekt med NTNU Technology Transfer og Campus Kjeller samlet noen oppstartselskaper med fokus på RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) og NFC (Near Field communication). Formålet med miniklyngen er å undersøke om dette kan bidra til økt vekst og styrket markedsposisjon gjennom et felles prosjekt. Samhandlingsprosjektet er støttet av FORNY-programmet i Norges Forskningsråd. Bladet FOKUS har møtt aktørene under samling på GS1 smart Centre, les hele saken her
