Bergen Teknologioverføring AS (BTO) is located in Bergen, the second largest city in Norway. The beautiful West coast of Norway runs along the Bergen region, and it is along this coastline that the greatest values in Norway are created.
BTO was founded December 2004 by the University of Bergen, Haukeland University Hospital and the Institute of Marine Research. BTO and other technology transfer offices in Norway was established following a law change granting universities and colleges in Norway the right to commercially exploit patentable inventions by employees. Today, BTO commercialise research results and handle all intellectual property (IP) aspects on behalf of 8 research institutions in Bergen.
In Bergen, there are about 4000 researchers performing cutting-edge research in a variety of disciplines for close to 4 billon NOK each year. This creates a lot of knowledge. The BTO team including BTO Consulting consists of highly skilled and experienced people with specialised knowledge within the field of business development and technlogy transfer. BTO knows business development – the challenge lies in choosing the most effective path.
BTO work hard to nurture our start-ups so they can develop their products and reach success. Our goal is to negotiate fair deals for both inventors and research institutions. We also help investors identify start-up companies in need of funding, and in getting a suitable return on their investment.
